Walleye action remains strong. Anglers report catching Walleye’s in shallow water on jig and minnow presentation. A lindy rig with a floating jig is working as well. Have had many reports of Sturgeon being caught here on Crane Lake. If you go to You Tube and look for Sturgeon on Crane Lake you will see two videos from a guest of the area. The largest being 58″, what a pig. Crappie action has slowed a bit, but the Smallmouth success rate has picked up. Last week saw a 17 pound Northern thas well (released). Give us a call to make your reservation today!

Fishing opener has come and gone. The weather did not cooperate, it was cold and rainy (like most openers). Last year our weather was warm and sunny (86), but this year it was hard to break 45. Walleyes were abundant for most with many fish in the 20″-27″ class. Shallow water with jig and minnow presentation was the best bet. Crappies did well also. The Gorge was closed for spawning, but most of the area fisherman stayed on Crane or just inside Sand Point. As usual some did better than others, that is why they call it fishing. Some did not do very well because of the long cast from their favorite bar stool, (thanks to them as well we appreciate it). More as the season progresses!

Well tomorrow is the big day!! Crane Lake is open for fishing, not like some other area lakes that are still froze over. Late springs usually turn into good fishing. Walleye’s should be shallow and should have spawned out already. Crappies actions should be good as well. Best of luck to all!

Welcome to the Voyagaire fishing blog! We will be posting here throughout the season to do our best keeping you updated on local conditions and fishing action in Voyageurs National Park! Today is nice and warm and the fish are biting! We have been out trolling plugs on the weed lines pounding the eye’s!!! Just joking - still have a couple of feet of ice, but it is melting nicely. Crappie action is doing well, but the conditions are diminishing enough to keep most people away. Should be a great spring!
